Summer of Fun 2016: Ideas for Teens

Today’s the day! The day I look forward to for most of the winter months.

I’m so excited I can hardly sit still long enough to get this written!!

If you’ve been with me for awhile then you know that every summer my family completes a list of summer activities together we call Summer of Fun. If you’re new, you can get an idea of what it’s all about by clicking here.

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be beginning our summer of fun list for this year! This will make year number 4 for us (which I can’t believe). Each year the list changes a bit as the kids get older! It’s always a bit of a challenge to say the least.

This year’s list is different because I now have two teenagers, actually one is getting close to leaving the teenage years ( I’m not sure how the heck I feel about that).

Up until last year, I completed the list after getting some input from the boys and hubs.

Last year I decided they needed to have more input and asked each of my guys, both boys and the hubs, to give me a list of ten things they wanted to add to the list, then I filled in the last 20.

I had to think long and hard about everything I added this year because I wanted to be sure the ideas for the list were fun and engaging for teenagers (not an easy feat I’m sure you can imagine).

In a world where kids are so tech savvy, including those lil ones, it’s more difficult to find things that will not be perceived as ‘stupid’ or ‘childish or worse… ‘boring’!

I think we did it! I think our list hits the mark! There’s a bit of messy; there’s a bit of silly; there’s some competition; there’s some life skills; there’s learning (shh don’t tell them that one); most of all there’s a lot of good stuff that’s a great way for us to connect as a family and not spend our time looking at a screen of one sort or another.

I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we will! Perhaps you could print it off and roll along with us as we begin *imagining a HUGE, BOOMING announcer voice*
