My One Minute Mind – Simple Times

My One Minute Mind (3)

Several times this past week I caught myself thinking how much I miss when times were simple, you know, the good ol’ days.

When my biggest concerns were wondering what my friends and I were going to do after school; what outfit I was going to wear to the dance; if the football team would win on Friday night; whether the blue eye shadow was too much (ah, remember the 80’s? The Simple times).

But were they really the simple times?

Probably not for my parents or the other adults at that time.

I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing years gone by were easier some how, but in actuality they were not simple for someone (my dad worked his a** off- don’t imagine that was simple)

I wonder if the adults I knew when I was a kid longed for the good ol’ days when things were simple? I’m sure they did.

But what were the good ol’ days for them? The same thing they were for me… the good ol’, simple times were when we were kids. When we had little to no responsibility, and didn’t have to think about or deal with work, bills, finances, house upkeep, spouses, children and their activities or attitudes…..ah the good ol’ days when life was simple….for us, but certainly not for the adults in our lives.

I’ve come to a new perspective when it comes to longing for the good ol’ simple times….it’s relative. Today will be a good ol’ day one day. I just can’t see it right now.

As an adult there are times when I wish I didn’t have to be an adult and deal with all the adult things, but then I think it may just have been those good ol’ days my parents gave to me which molded me into the capable adult I’ve become today.

And that’s my one minute mind

  1. I love this… You make an excellent point in this when you say that you want to go back and how your parents had it hard then as we do now… Everyone has thought about it one time or another about the good old days and being a kid again… Very eloquently put my friend!

    1. Sometimes I think about things and wonder if I’m the only one who thinks like that. I can always count on you Anna to help me remember that I am “normal” 😉
Thanks for stopping in! Love hearing from you

  2. You make a very good point. However, as an interviewer, I speak with so many people who never really had a childhood when things were simple — they were trying to survive the abuse and unfortunately, it is much more prevalent now. And yes, I am guilty of often reflecting on how simple life was as a child

    1. I think there are many who had horrible childhoods and that makes me sad. I wonder if they longed for the days to move faster so they could grow up and not be in that madness… Thanks so much for stopping in. Loved hearing from you
