My One Minute Mind

my one minute mind

I’m not one to watch the news. As a matter of fact, I usually do my level best to avoid it.

It is rare indeed to catch me sitting down in front of my TV and flipping the news on.

Local news, national news, world news, matter not to me, I just don’t watch.

To some of you that may sound wrong.

I’ve heard the arguments; how do you know what’s going on in your community? How do you know what’s going on in your nation? How do you know what’s going on in your world?

People talk. Social media talks. Newspapers talk. Magazines talk.

You see, there’s no escape.

The awful hurts, tragedies, anguish, they’re never far away.

I can’t close my eyes or my heart to the hurt of this world.

It isn’t possible.

There’s more. There’s more to it than all of this.  More than all of this madness.

My heart does more than bleed for all of the injustices in this world.

My heart seeks good. Seeks comfort. Seeks love.

Our society is so quickly drawn into the sensationalism of the media regardless of its form.

I love the song by Michael Jackson, Man in the Mirror.

It speaks to me of the change the world needs.

Change starts with me. Peace starts with me.

No, I, alone, cannot stop terrorists, shooters, robbers, bombers.

I’m but one small human

BUT

I have to look to the things I CAN do that will make a difference, I HAVE TO!

No matter how small, what I do makes a difference, matters, affects.

  1. I am with you all the way on this. The news is designed to keep us all scared and on edge – that makes people easier to control by governments. So the news is all slanted to a rundown of all the very worst things that happened in the world and we rarely hear about all the billions of good things happening. The news distorts reality. My elderly relatives believe that certain religious groups are all terrorists. I spend my life trying to explain that they are not but I am fighting a losing battle because ‘the news’ must be right. So sad. I have not watched the news for years or read newspapers. Sadly, Facebook makes it hard to avoid news because there are so many people who fall for it and LOVE to share bad news. This is a great post.

  2. HI There! YOU and I are on the same wave length following the Paris tragedies…WE all must look in the mirror and see what it is we can do to have a positive impact in our path today. Thanks! Joan

  3. I agree =) Keep on doing good, but also stay informed, thanks to the news we are able to spread awareness about the issues of our time…the point is to never give up on humanity, no matter how bad the news are…Let’s just try to change it one step at a time…
